Jämsä – The Felt Valley of Finland
Felt production has been part of Jämsä’s history since the early 1900s. Thanks to its strong craftsmanship traditions, favourable location and growing industry, the area became one of Finland’s leading centres of felt production.
Over the years, the felt industry has evolved, but Jämsä has preserved its unique connection to this traditional craft. Today, while industrial felt production has nearly disappeared elsewhere in Finland, Jämsä remains an important home of felt-making. This rich heritage has earned the area its well-known nickname: the Felt Valley of Finland.
